Welcome to Mary Bassham Jewelry!

After many years as a studio painter, graphic designer and instructor, I decided to become a jewelry artist in 2002 after taking my first formal jewelry course. A few years later, I founded Bassham studios; my home studio where I create artisan jewelry. I have been very fortunate to study with expert jewelry craftspersons at renowned crafts schools such as Penland School of Crafts, Arrowmont School of Crafts and the Morean Art Center. I am a member of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths. I earned degrees in Fine Art (B.F.A) and Fine Arts and Education. (M.A.) from the University of South Florida.

I work in precious metals, silver and gold, pearls and gemstones. In my studio, I hand fabricate bracelets, necklaces and earrings using traditional metalsmithing techniques. Combining contrasting tones and textures of metal, colorful gemstones and unique stones with modern and ancient jewelry forms is the focus of my jewelry style. I love hand making jewelry and think the presence of the artist’s touch creates warmth and a personal connection with the piece. I respect and love to integrate the ancient processes of working with metal with modern ideas to create pieces that are beautiful and easy to wear. I enjoy creating unique, classic pieces of wearable art that reference a combination of ancient and contemporary forms.
